Stay by the river and watch Grizzly bears from your camping chair

The Fisheries Pool Campground offers you one of the most authentic ways to watch Grizzly bears in their natural habitat during the salmon run between the end of August and the middle of October. Located right on the banks of the Atnarko River, you are immersed in untamed wilderness here. While you enjoy the peace of the river, powerful Grizzly bears pass by, fuelling up on fresh salmon for their winter rest.

Among tall firs and cedars you can set up your camping chair with a view of the river, breathe in the clear morning air and lie in wait with a steaming cup of coffee. The unique location of the campground directly on the Atnarko River makes it the ideal place to observe bears in the wild – they often walk right along the riverbank. The sound of the flowing water and the golden rays of the low sun create an atmosphere that makes the waiting part of the experience.

But be careful: here you are part of their habitat – an experience that demands respect, patience and caution. The campground is not fenced, which means you must always keep a safe distance from the bears. A ranger does come by regularly, but the responsibility lies with you.

Between September and October only motorhomes or vehicles with fixed sleeping compartments are allowed – tents and roof tents are prohibited for safety reasons. The Fisheries Pool Campground is very popular during the high season – booking well in advance is essential.
