The five pitches at the recreation site are basic – with picnic tables, fire pits and a simple toilet. But it is precisely this simplicity that gives the place its charm. Keep your eyes open already while driving along the Noomst Forest Service Road – the bears often move along the riverbank. Especially at dusk the wilderness here reveals its magical side. The journey to the McCall Flats Recreation Site is an adventure in itself: the forest road is a bit rough, but manageable with a van or truck camper. Tents are not allowed here because of the high bear activity, so only vehicles with fixed sleeping areas may be used. It is worth arriving early, as pitches are limited and there is no option to reserve. Be aware that you are here at your own risk – rangers are not on site and the place is maintained by its users.
