Experience humpback whales in their natural habitat
Uvita, Costa Rica
Watch humpback whales and dolphins on a guided boat tour in Marino Ballena National Park off Uvita.
What you can experience here
In the protected marine area of Marino Ballena National Park in Uvita you set off on a guided boat tour to observe humpback whales at close range. During the main season the impressive whales often appear close to the coast, together with their calves. Different dolphin species repeatedly accompany the boat and, with a bit of luck, you may also spot sea turtles or seabirds along the striking rocks and reefs.
The boat tour lasts around 2.5 to 3.5 hours. It usually starts directly in the national park. Life jackets, guides as well as snacks and drinks are included. Depending on the weather you can also snorkel around rocky formations. The main season for humpback whales is from December to April and from July to October. The number of participants and group size varies depending on the operator.
