Enjoy an easy hike on Iceland's largest glacier

On this guided glacier hike you explore the fringes of Vatnajökull, Europe's largest glacier. On the ice you can look forward to bluish shimmering ice formations, deep crevasses and geological structures that are constantly reshaped by the glacier's movement. The contrast between black volcanic ash and white glacial ice makes the landscape particularly impressive. Your certified guide leads you safely across the ice and gives you insights into the formation and transformation of the glacier.

The tour takes place in small groups and lasts around three to four hours. The meeting point is at the Skaftafell car park, from where the group sets off together for the glacier tongue. The hike to the glacier covers around 3.5 kilometres and leads over moderate to demanding terrain. All equipment, including crampons and helmet, is provided by the operator. Good physical fitness is an advantage, no previous experience is required.
