Photograph wildlife at the waterhole from ground level

Hidden on the edge of a waterhole in the private Onguma Reserve you sit just a few metres away from zebras, giraffes and antelopes. The photo hide is set slightly below ground level and gives you a unique perspective on the animals – at ground level, in absolute silence.

Through narrow viewing slits you watch the comings and goings at the waterhole: zebras step cautiously out of the bush, giraffes slowly bend down to drink, colourful birds dart through the scene. The atmosphere is focused and quiet. An experienced guide is always with you, answers questions and ensures safety. Snacks and chilled drinks are provided – so you can fully immerse yourself in watching.

The photo hide is close to the Onguma lodges on the eastern edge of Etosha National Park. The best time for wildlife viewing is during the dry season between May and October, when many animals gather at the waterhole. In the rainy season they often stay deeper in the bush. To take part you need to stay overnight in one of Onguma’s accommodations.
