Experience the African continent in the evening light

Above the quiet valley near Wilderness you get a very special view: the river below you winds its way in the shape of the African continent – a fascinating natural image that can only be seen from this perspective. As the sun slowly disappears behind the hills, the contours of the valley glow in warm light.

A short detour from the N2 takes you to the “Map of Africa” viewpoint. You park right on the edge of the small rise, from where you can enjoy an unobstructed view of the panorama. The spot is especially atmospheric at sunset, when the valley is bathed in golden tones and the landscape reveals its full expanse.

Plan this stop for the evening – ideal if you are on your way from Knysna to Mossel Bay or looking to round off the day in nature. Any vehicle can use the access road. You will usually stay no longer than ten minutes, but the view will stay with you for a long time.
