Watch resplendent quetzals building their nests on a guided tour

Among the moss-covered giant trees of the Monteverde cloud forest you experience the resplendent quetzal breeding season at close quarters. On this guided birding tour you watch how resplendent quetzal pairs actively expand their nest cavities, feed and show themselves in the morning mist. At each stop you delve deeper into a mosaic of four different habitats. Besides the iconic resplendent quetzals you encounter endemic hummingbirds, the three-wattled bellbird and other rare species whose calls echo through the cloud forest.

The four-hour tour starts at 6am and takes small groups of up to six people through a variety of protected areas around Monteverde. You walk on natural trails and the guide selects the protected area depending on the current bird activity. Grading: easy to moderate, suitable for anyone who can get up early. No previous knowledge is required, English and Spanish are spoken.
