Meet the nocturnal animals of the cloud forest on a night walk

In the dense cloud forest of the Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve you experience the mysterious side of the forest on a guided night walk. Under the guidance of an experienced nature guide you immerse yourself in a cosmos of nocturnal sounds and fleeting wildlife sightings. With a bit of luck you may spot nocturnal species such as Costa Rican redleg tarantulas, glass frogs, kinkajous, scorpions or the silky anteater. The focus is always on spontaneous, respectful observation in the wild – no feeding, no luring, no show. You learn fascinating facts about the ecosystem, biodiversity and the hidden strategies of the forest inhabitants.

The roughly two-and-a-half-hour walk starts at around 5.30pm (optionally private from 6pm) at the main entrance to the reserve. You are in a small group of a maximum of nine people per guide, equipped with a torch and accompanied by a bilingual expert. The route of about three kilometres runs mainly along natural trails through different habitats. Transport to and from your hotel is included. The tour is of moderate difficulty and requires normal sure-footedness.
