Bathe in hot springs in a secluded canyon

The Húsafell Canyon Baths are in western Iceland, about two kilometres from the village of Húsafell, nestled in a secluded canyon in the Giljá valley. Opened in 2018, the site comprises two geothermally heated natural pools with temperatures between 30 and 41 °C, as well as a cold spring at around 10 °C for cooling off. The pools are built in traditional Icelandic style using natural materials such as stone and wood, and blend harmoniously into the surroundings of volcanic rock, waterfalls and mountains. Limiting visitor numbers through the tour concept creates a quiet, intimate atmosphere far from tourist crowds.

Access to the Canyon Baths is only possible on guided tours organised by the Húsafell Activity Center. The tour includes a nature trail of about two kilometres through a protected area before you go down around 60 steps to the baths. Simple, heatable changing facilities and showers are available on site, designed to be close to nature and minimalist. Tours run all year round and offer different experiences depending on the season, for example with snow in winter or under the midnight sun in summer. This spot is ideal for a half-day trip with a deliberate focus on slowing down and immersing yourself in nature.
