Stroll past the colourful beach huts of Muizenberg

The famous colourful beach huts of Muizenberg are one of South Africa’s most iconic photo motifs. Right on the white sandy beach, the brightly painted bathing cabins line up in front of the deep blue ocean – a vibrant legacy of the Victorian era. Here relaxed beach life meets history and a breathtaking backdrop.

As you wander along the beach you can enjoy the fresh sea breeze and admire the colourful display of the wooden huts. Muizenberg is also known as a surfer hotspot – everywhere you look you’ll see surfers throwing themselves into the perfect waves. If you feel like it, you can grab a board and try your luck yourself, or simply watch the action from one of the cafés. But even if you don’t surf, a visit is worthwhile – even on days with little wind. The wide bay invites you to linger and the water of False Bay is noticeably warmer here than on Cape Town’s Atlantic beaches. It’s perfect for cooling your feet in the sea after a walk through the sand and enjoying the view. Muizenberg is only 30 minutes from Cape Town and can easily be combined with a side trip to Kalk Bay or Boulders Beach.
