Discover the adventurers' meeting point in the heart of the Kaokoveld

Green Drum is a navigation point in the middle of the remoteness of the Kaokoveld. The distinctive green drum is not only a signpost but also a meeting point for adventurers, who sign the logbook here and feel a connection with other travellers. Apart from the green drum there is simply nothing here – this stark emptiness is what makes the place so fascinating.

Green Drum is also the starting point for further adventures, such as a drive into the Marienfluss valley, into the Hartmann valley or all the way to the Kunene, Namibia's northernmost border.

To visit Green Drum, you should be well prepared. A high-clearance 4x4 vehicle is essential, as the roads are rough and difficult to drive. Do not rely solely on GPS, but take printed maps as well, as navigation in this region can be demanding. Sufficient water, supplies and fuel are a must, as there are no services at all in the area. The best time to travel is from May to October, when the climate is dry and pleasant. It is best to travel in a group and let someone know your planned route, as help in an emergency can be very hard to reach.
