Watch elephants and eland on the route of giants

Domkrag Road with the Nzipondo Loop is a short but wildlife-rich route in Addo Elephant Park. The route leads through open terrain with good visibility and offers optimal conditions for wildlife viewing. The central spot is Domkrag Dam, where you can regularly watch African bush elephants drinking and feeding in the surrounding vegetation. The open landscape makes it easy to spot the animals from a distance.

The route is nicknamed the ‘route of giants’ – and rightly so. In addition to the elephants, common eland also roam here, the largest antelope species in the world. Despite their size, these animals are shy and not always easy to find. South African ostrich also stay in the open vegetation along the route, feeding on herbs, grasses and seeds. With a bit of luck you may also see lions making use of the open terrain.

The entire route is asphalted and can be driven in a short time. Despite its compact length, the combination of waterhole and open landscape offers excellent chances for varied wildlife sightings. The good visibility makes this stretch particularly suitable for relaxed wildlife viewing from your vehicle.
